April marks World Autism Month, beginning with the United Nations-sanctioned World Autism Awareness Day on April 2. At Therapy Care, it’s more than a date on the calendar; it’s a time to recognise, amplify, and celebrate the achievements of the autistic individuals and families in our community.
This year’s international theme is “Advancing Neurodiversity and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”. While that’s a global goal, at Therapy Care, we stay grounded in what truly drives change — the personal, everyday wins of our participants.
We’re proud to work with many incredible people who are living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Their journeys are diverse, their strengths are unique, and their progress is a testament to what’s possible when the right supports are in place.
Here are a few stories that inspire us every day.
Lachlan joined the Therapy Care community in 2021 and is now navigating his early years of high school with a quiet determination and a love for learning. Over the years, he’s developed a strong, trusting relationship with his therapy team, which has empowered him to explore new environments and build his confidence socially and academically.
Lachlan receives support through occupational therapy, speech therapy, recreational therapy, and weekly one-on-one social support. He’s also a regular at our school holiday programs, where he enjoys connecting with other like-minded participants in a fun and relaxed environment.
Some of Lachlan’s key NDIS goals include:
✅ Improving literacy and numeracy
✅ Enhancing fine motor skills
✅ Strengthening emotional regulation and social interaction
✅ Boosting independence and community involvement
He continues to impress us with his insight, perspective, and willingness to stretch outside his comfort zone — always surprising himself with what he can achieve.
Josh has been a standout participant at Therapy Care for over two years. Through his weekly exercise physiology sessions, Josh has built not just physical strength but resilience and emotional confidence too.
Supported by Brandon and David, Josh has found purpose and belonging in the gym. He’s grown more independent in following his own workout routine and has developed tools to manage anxiety and navigate social situations more confidently.
Josh’s current NDIS goals include:
✅ Building social skills and community engagement
✅ Improving overall fitness
✅ Entering the workforce
✅ Gaining greater independence
In his own words, “Therapy Care isn’t just a place to exercise — it’s a fun place! I’m always disappointed if I have to miss a session.”
We love Josh’s energy, drive, and positive mindset. His progress is a perfect example of how the right environment and the right people can unlock amazing growth.
Zac has been with Therapy Care for over three years and continues to impress with his incredible growth in independence and self-confidence. Initially supported with a sensory-focused, play-based approach, Zac has steadily transitioned into an adult physical activity program, where he takes the lead on his own routine and thrives in structured, social settings.
Zac receives support from a dedicated team including David, Amanda, and Nika, who have all played a pivotal role in his journey.
“Zac has shown us what’s possible when therapy is built around the individual, not the diagnosis,” his support team shares. “He’s gained the confidence to make his own choices, communicate openly, and genuinely enjoy every part of his program.”
Zac is known around Therapy Care for his warm personality and quick wit. He’s always up for a chat — whether it’s about Star Wars, Netflix shows, or the latest apps on your phone — and never misses a chance to greet every team member when he walks through the door.
His team adds, “While we’re here to support Zac, we learn just as much from him. His optimism, insight, and love for the simple things are a daily reminder of why we do what we do.”
Autism isn’t one experience — it’s a spectrum, with each individual bringing their own perspective, needs, and strengths. That’s why we’re committed to neuroaffirming, tailored support that respects individuality and empowers each person to reach their goals.
This Autism Awareness Month, we encourage everyone to:
✅ Learn more about neurodiversity
✅ Share real stories that humanise and uplift
✅ Advocate for inclusive spaces
✅ Celebrate autistic voices, not just accommodate them
This April, let’s move beyond awareness into true acceptance — and make it known that neurodiversity isn’t something to be “understood” from afar, but celebrated up close, every single day.
To our amazing participants — Lachlan, Josh, Zac, and every other Therapy Care legend — thank you for showing us what progress, strength, and resilience really look like.
We’re proud to be a part of your story.
